Project: Chartwood Stables, Kingswood, Kent.

Description: The scheme provides for the conversion of a pair of stable buildings initially into office space to house the family business, with a view to subsequent transformation into residential accommodation. Minimal interventions into the existing structures allow their almost complete retention. The courtyard between the existing parallel buildings is infilled to provide a generous work / living space. The roof profile over the central space, while remaining in line with the existing ridge height, is manipulated to provide high level natural light into the room. Full width glazing allows access to a new south facing terrace. An insulated render system, bespoke timber windows and slate roof create a contemporary aesthetic drawn from traditional agricultural models.

Status: Detailed design on-going.
