Project: Herondale Avenue 1, Wandsworth.

Description:The scheme consists of the reordering of the ground floor of this generously scaled property on Herondale Avenue. The existing semi-detached home is rich with Art-Deco inspired details, which in turn has influenced the scale and nature of the proposed interventions. A restrictive kitchen / dining space is transformed into a library overlooking the garden, while the lounge becomes a large combined sitting, kitchen and dining space extended to the rear by a new volume cantilevered out over the rear garden. The scale of the rear extension is modulated by the introduction of high level clerestory windows, emphasising the horizontality of the new addition, and harmonising with the scale and appearance of the original rear elevation. Sliding doors connect the proposed extension with a modified raised terrace, and also open up the space to an elegant balcony suspended over the rear garden.
