Description: The proposed rear extension is a simple rectilinear volume in both plan and section which reflects the cubic geometry of the host property. In plan the extension is ‘full width’, lining through with the side elevations of the existing house, simply extending these towards the garden. In section, the ceiling height within the extension maintains the height of the existing ground floor ceilings. The proposals replace the existing small and awkwardly planned kitchen and ‘lean-to’ utility space with a generous family kitchen which will become spatially continuous with the central dining space. The combined kitchen, dining and family room will overlook the garden through generous glazing, improving accessibility to this important family amenity space. A perimeter rooflight, wrapping around three sides of the proposed extension, will bring natural light and views of the surrounding mature tree tops into the heart of the home.
