Project: Garden Studio, Mount Nod Road, Streatham.

Description: The scheme provides a new garden studio space to the rear of a Victorian Villa fronting onto Mount Nod Road in Streatham. The proposals are single storey (with a partial mezzanine), and partially sunk into the ground, taking advantage of the sloping site to minimise the visual impact of the scheme on the garden and on neighbouring properties. The building is designed to harmonise with its natural surroundings. The base is constructed from brick in ’earthy’ tones of grey and brown. The upper part of the elevations is clad in vertically boarded timber cladding, stained silver/ grey to represent aged timber, and designed to ‘recede’ into the background. Grey aluminium doors and windows compliment the silver/grey cladding. The roof will be in grey zinc - a commonly used material in garden and ‘utilitarian’ structures. The garden itself will be restored to create an attractive, manageable amenity space featuring areas of soft planting, planted boundaries, and useable terraces linked to the green space and accessed from the accommodation.

Status: Planning.
