Project: House Extension, The Gallop, Sutton

Description: The house is a single storey bungalow situated on the east side of The Gallop, a quiet residential street in Sutton, south London. The project comprises the removal and replacement of the roof of the property to accommodate habitable rooms at a new first floor level, as well as a new rear extension replacing an existing conservatory. Alterations to the roof form to provide light and view to the newly created spaces take the form of gabled dormer windows to the front, and the creation of a series of three symmetrical gabled bays to the rear. The existing conservatory to the rear is to be removed, and a single storey rear extension added in its place, containing a garden-facing kitchen, living, dining space. The extension adopts a simple, single storey, cubic form in white render, matching the main property. A wide set of bi-fold doors has the potential to open up the new living spaces to the rear garden. In their form and materiality, the proposed additions are clearly subordinate to, but sympathetic with the original form and materiality of the house.
